The medieval city of the Fugger
Over the years, Vipiteno has become a modern business town. It's no coincidence that the street crossing the historical centre is considered one of Europe's most beautiful shopping avenues. However, the city of the Fugger has not forgotten its medieval past, as demonstrated by the typical bow-windows and the crenellated pediments. The city is teeming with architectural and artistic jewels that can be admired in its museums.
Sports and leisure time
The winter in Valle Isarco is dominated by the undeniable charm of the ski slopes(from downhill runs to cross-country circuits), while in the summer the surroundings of Vipiteno are the ideal spot for fantastic hikes.
For mountain climbers, the kingdom of the glaciers in the Zillertal Alps (with the "Gran Pilastro/Hochfeiler" mountain, 3510 m) offers routes with varying degrees of difficulty. The high-altitude refuges are the perfect location to enjoy a well-deserved break and admire the panorama.
Hikers and families can reach the Alpine chalets by foot along beautiful paths or use some of the lifts. Mountain bike aficionados can choose among many different alternatives in the surroundings of Sterzing/Vipiteno: old military and forest roads winding over routes suitable for in-shape athletes as well as beginners. In addition, in the summer, there are many sport and leisure time alternatives: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, miniature golf courses, Kneipp courses, rafting, fishing, paragliding... and a driving range for golf lovers.
The pleasure of the palate
In the entire area of Vipiteno the restaurants and hotels invite you to savour an incredible variety of flavours: from the most refined cuisine to simple traditional recipes. Obviously, the South Tyrolean specialities are offered along with typical Italian dishes. The special weeks, like the "Valle Isarco fine cuisine week" and the "Yoghurt Days", are the year's most important gastronomic events. Bars, taverns, outdoor cafes and wine cellars are the ideal evening meeting spots. And, naturally, if you still have energy to spare, the discotheques always offer plenty of fun and entertainment.
